Notes on Mercer family history
In Julia Lavinia Mercer's 1939 obituary in the Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser, the Mercers were described as "an old Kent family".
Many members of the extended Mercer family have retained close ties to the Weald, where some still farm.
Robert's 3 x great-niece Stella Knight still lives in the village of Headcorn (Robert's birthplace), and is believed to be its oldest living resident, having turned 102 in August 2024.
